All About Blockchain

What is the FLO Blockchain?

FLO is a public record for building decentralized applications that utilizes metadata attached to each transaction. This metadata layer allows reading and writing to the blockchain quickly and easily, encouraging unique apps and tools to be built with FLO. Each block is processed in intervals of 40 seconds. FLO is a fork of litecoin which retains very similar characteristics to how Bitcoin functions.

Open Index Protocol

Open Index Protocol (OIP) is an open source specification for a persistent worldwide index and file library useful for data publishing, file distribution and facilitating direct payments. OIP uses blockchain technology and distributed networking to operate with no central authority: record indexing, file storage/distribution and transaction management are carried out collectively by the decentralized network.

OIP is the first permissionless system with a decentralized and transparent index for digital content and protected file persistence. The system uses a Salutary Protocol model, which funnels financial incentives to both application and protocol layers, ensuring sustainability and antifragility of the system through open market incentive alignment of all participants.

The OIP specification describes:

  • How a proof-of-work blockchain and interoperable transport protocols create a shared data layer for digital content
  • How metadata, terms of use, file addressing, and payment information are stored in the blockchain
  • How to search and browse the shared data layer
  • How the blockchain security incentive is connected to the value of the content published to the shared data layer
  • How file persistence & legal compliance are ensured

How do OIP and FLO work together?

Open Index Protocol uses the Flo blockchain for the meta-data index and interoperable transport protocols for file storage/distribution and payments. Current implementation supports SIA SKYNET for file storage/distribution and Bitcoin, Litecoin and Florincoin tokens for payments; support for additional file and value transport protocols is on the roadmap.

Uninstalling & Deactivating

How to delete your account

  1. Visit Profile > Account Settings
  2. Click “Deactivate Account”
  3. Click “yes I’m sure”
  4. Write down your mnemonic phrase
  5. Then click “yes” - your account is now deleted.

What we do with your data

Your data is stored, encrypted, on the blockchain. We can never take it down, that’s one of the most important features of streambed. However, we cannot decrypt the information without your consent. If you deactivate your account, we have no way to identify, use, or see any of your information. For more on what we store and how we use it, see our privacy policy.

Account recovery

Make sure when you deactivate your account to write down your mnemonic phrase. This phrase is then entered into our security protocols to reinstate your account. Put this phrase somewhere safe - do not store it digitally. Write it down on a piece of paper and don’t show it to anyone.

To recover your account:

  1. On app.streambedmedia.com/signup, click “restore account.”
  2. Type in specific words of your mnemonic phrase according to the prompts
  3. Re-log into your account and change your password
  4. Reconnect your social media accounts

Disconnecting your social accounts

  1. Navigate to "Settings" by clicking the gear on the main navigation bar.
  2. Go to "Linked Accounts", and you'll see a list of your connected accounts - this includes your Youtube, Zoom, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter accounts.
  3. Slide the blue slider until it turns grey
  4. If prompted, click "unlink" account.
  5. Your account is now disconnected.

Mnemonics & Account Restoration

What is a mnemonic phrase?

A mnemonic phrase, mnemonic recovery phrase or bitcoin seed is a list of words which stores all the information needed to recover a bitcoin wallet. A wallet will typically generate a mnemonic backup phrase and instruct the user to write it down on paper. If the user's computer breaks or their hard drive becomes corrupted, they can download the same wallet again and use the paper backup to get their bitcoins back.

In many cases a mnemonic phrase is preferred as a way to make it easier to access a wallet since instead of individual characters/numbers, it’s almost as if it were a sentence made up of words.

How it works

The software of a wallet uses a whole set of words taken from a vocabulary; at that every word is assigned to a specific number. A mnemonic phrase can be modified into a number, which is used as a seed that generates all pairs of keys for this wallet. The English word list for the BIP39 standard has 2048 words. If a phrase consists of 12 words, then the number of possible combinations is 2048 to the 12th power, or 2 to the 132nd power, i.e. the phrase will have 132 bits of safety.

Theoretically, one can think out the mnemonic phrase by his own, but it is not safe, because a human cannot do a great job with the random generation. The best way to secure one’s wallet is to take a mnemonic phrase generated by the program code.

FAQ

Am I able to connect multiple Youtube accounts to my Streambed account?

To keep our analytics accurate for each account, we only allow one type of social media account per Streambed user.

Why can’t I see the analytics from some of my posts?

On the right side of the screen, make sure you have selected the videos/posts you want to see the analytics for. If you would like to access the total overall analytics, click “select all.”

Why aren’t my previous posts and videos on Streambed?

The app will populate your 40 previous items from each of your social media platforms, but it will not create streambed pages for them. You must go through and generate index pages for each to have their analytics show up in your feed.

What if I enter my contributors wrong?

In future builds of streambed you will be able to edit contributors. For now, take your video down and try again.

What does Streambed have to do with the blockchain?

Blockchain proofing is at the heart of how we are able to do what we do. For more on this, check out our Chairman Michael’s article on our Blog.

Don’t see your question here? Contact us and we’ll get back to you within 24-48 hours. We’d love to hear from you!

Troubleshooting

My account isn’t connecting to Youtube

  • If you have used Streambed in the past, you may need to reset the app’s permissions. To do this, follow the instructions from Google: . Once you have completed the steps listed, use our instructions to reconnect your Youtube account.
  • Make sure your youtube account is only connected to one streambed account. Social accounts can only connect to one user account at a time.

My account isn’t uploading videos

  • Is the social channel you’re trying to connect to connected to streambed? If no, visit how to connect my accounts.
  • Make sure your video isn’t too long. Youtube only accepts videos shorter than 30 minutes, and twitter only accepts videos shorter than 3 minutes.
  • If you get to step 3 and the upload stalls, you may have reached your upload limit for the day. Streambed currently limits users to 10 videos per day to reduce spam.
About account limits:

Youtube only allows you to upload 20 hours of video per day, so Streambed does the same. In future we will be developing scheduling capabilities, but until then just come back each day and continue on.

My email verification link expired!

If you don’t click the link to activate your account within 24 hours, it will expire and so will your account. Register again using the same username and it should work. If not, and we’ll reset it for you.

I typed my contributor’s email wrong!

Currently we do not support editing tags on contributors. This is a feature we aim to implement in the next few months. For now, take your video down and upload it again with the correct information.

My dashboard won’t load and just has the endless spinning teal “loading” loop.

  • Make sure your social accounts are all connected.
  • Log out, shut down your browser, and try again
  • and try again
  • If you can’t solve this, and we’ll get back to you within 24 hours.
